Chingona Shoutout: Larissa León

Duck Tape Dress.

At Queen de mi Corazón we praise, celebrate, and love Chingonas every day, but now Fridays are dedicated to shining a spotlight on Latinas rocking it here in the US.

Meet Larissa León; she is a talented, creative, and resourceful teenager, that created a gorgeus traditional dress using duck tape. Yup, nothing but Duck Tape, and she is now a finalist on the Duck Tape Brand #stucatprom challenge, that could potentially help her pay for her college tuition.

As she mentioned on her contest entry "I was inspired by the folklorico styled dresses that stem from both indegenous and spanish practices. The dresses are decorated with ribbon, flowers, and include a full flowy skirt. So I created a ruffled off the shoulder colorful folklorico flower gown. The gown is heavily detailed with flowers, Duct Tape lace, and ribboning to create the folkloric design. The gown was designed to honor my culture, helping me pay homage to my roots, along with making a beautiful dress for prom that’s made out of Duct Tape, something that many of my friends and family thought to be impossible."

We had the opportunity to talk with her recently and asked her a couple of real questions to get to know her a little better

Where are you from?

I was born in Houston Texas but was raised in Sunnyside Washington

What's your favorite taco of all time?

Tacos de Barbacoa

What's your go-to emoji? 💕

To someone who has never been to Mexico, what place would you recommend they visit for the first time?

My favorite place to go is Guadalajara Mexico, it's so fun and there are millions of things to do, as well there's amazing food.

What is something you do to practice self-care?

I get bad acne sometimes so my selfcare routine is quite extreme. Not only do I put on toners, creams, and lotions, I also take vitamins to boost my skin from the inside out. I also workout to keep my mind focused.

Larissa is a young Latina, inspired by her roots and her ancestry to continue building a future in the US. She is excited to win this contest to continue her education.

Please support her by voting for her as many times as you can, and sharing her story.

Thank you Larissa for talking to us and sharing your story. We wish you all the success in this contest and all your future goals. #chingona
