Afrolatino Festival 2021

Azzzucar en Lynnwood, WA.

This Saturday afternoon was so fun, y'all! We attended the Afro-Latino Festival in Lynnwood for the first time, and it was so cool we are ready to go back next year! There was live music, lots of local Latinx vendors, and the smell of tacos greeted you from the parking lot.

As soon as we got inside, the kids immediately ran to the playground, where they made some friends, played on the slide with bubbles and balloons! Then, we ate the yummiest paleta de Arroz con Leche.

We played and walked around the tents where Latinx vendors displayed a collection of beautiful authentic Latinamerican clothes, toys, jewelry, and more. I also noticed there was a COVID vaccination tent which I thought was brilliant! They had free buttons, masks, comics, flyers, and all sorts of valuable information for the community, both in English and Spanish. Increíble, felicitaciones por esos esfuerzos por protejer a la comunidad.

We also spotted our friends from @aguacatecolors, who had some new arrivals on display. Check out their Facebook page; it has some adorable outfits para el 15 de Septiembre 💃! She also had these beautiful handmade stuffed animals that my kids fell in love with. Look at the colors and details!

The music was fantastic! There were at least three different bands that really brought the party together; they literally had us salsa dancing in less than 5 minutes. My daughter, who had never attempted to salsa dance before, decided to give it a go! She joined the fun in trying something new. In the process, she connected beautifully to her community, roots, and traditions. It was great, we danced cumbias, bachata, reggaeton, y salsas de todos lados.

Bands: Eclipse Rock Band & Latino Twist

Some fantastic folklórico dancers from the group Herencias Mexicanas PNW had everyone mesmerized with the shapes and colors of their beautiful dresses as they moved. It was fantastic to see them perform, so beautiful and proud of themselves and what they represent. Powerful Chingonas & Chingoncitas proud, and so so beautiful. Congratulations, you were great.

Please support them by following their work, catching their upcoming presentation, or sending good vibes to these wonderful dancers in their Facebook page.

After all that dancing, we had an horchatita para recuperarse, some fruit while enjoying seeing the dancers and being silly at the photo booth. We played, danced, ate, and got a little community hug. Not a physical one, but those that hit you right in the corazoncito, that remind you of all the beauties in your roots, your community, y tu gente.

As we were leaving, the rain started to show up, but the Seattle rain is nothing for a group of Latinxs dancing, is it? Que la fiesta sigue, y a bailar en la lluvia se dijo!

So grateful for events like this, looking forward to so much more. Nos vemos el año que entra.

If you don't wanna miss next year's event be sure to give them a follow on social media to stay up to date.

Un abrazo,

- Patty & her little silly crew.
